Welcome to the Parish of Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC), Deepdene. OLGC is a spiritual home and springboard to action for hundreds of local Catholics in Deepdene.
The life of this parish draws on two actions from the Rite of Baptism. The first is the reception of the baptismal candle. Here the minister of baptism turns to the newly baptised with the words, Receive the light of Christ. This light is entrusted to you to be kept burning brightly. Parishioners at OLGC have a strong sense of keeping the flame of faith alive in their day to day activities. In many ways this parish strives to be a light of hope for those who pass by.
The second action is the Ephphatha. Here the minister turns to the newly baptised with the words, May the Lord soon touch your ears to receive his word and your mouth to proclaim his faith to the glory of God. And so at OLGC all that we do is grounded in listening to the Word of God and speaking the truth we have come to know in that Word. Our parish school and our many active groups strive to be faithful listeners to the Word of God in Scripture and active participants in bringing about a new world shaped by the light, hope and life of the resurrection of Christ.
